In 2005, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta were given the opportunity to create an orchestra of young, ambitious, virtuosic musicians, from around the world. After months of auditions, the orchestra of the Palau de les Arts (the Valencia Opera Orchestra) was formed. In 2006, and upon its inaugural performance, Lorin Maazel compared the level of musicianship of this orchestra to that of first class orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Since the beginning of the opera in Valencia, the members of the Arteunita Ensemble have been collaborating with one another through chamber music and recitals inside the opera house and throughout Europe. Out of this spirit, the Arteunita Ensemble was formed in 2012. The ensemble is directed by Russian cellist, Olga Kotchenkova, and carries the support of Plácido Domingo, who has opened the door to future collaborations with him.

The Arteunita Ensemble offers a fresh, engaging and imaginative approach to classical works from the Baroque to the Contemporary period. Although its members come from different countries and speak different languages, they bring not only their musicianship, but their original ideas through the universal language of music to create unique interpretations and performance experiences.
